Native Mac word processor · macOS 26

The AI lives in your document, not beside it.

cunei is a native Mac word processor that edits real Word .docx files — and its AI works inside the page: a tracked change you accept or reject, an anchored comment, a structure fix. Not a chatbot you copy-paste from.

Private beta for macOS 26. On-device AI is free; cloud AI is bring-your-own-key.

The Margin

Ask in plain language. It acts in the document.

Open The Margin with ⌘K and ask for what you want. Because cunei owns its editing engine, the result lands in the page's own margin as type-coded proposals you review — real editor operations, not text to paste. Chat-beside tools can't reach the page like this.

Tracked edits

Rewrites and fixes arrive as real Word tracked changes you accept or reject — nothing is silently rewritten.

Source-checked claims

A review pass checks each claim against your attached sources and labels it supported or unsupported, with the real quote. No invented citations.

Structure fixes

Blank pages, stray section breaks, broken numbering — it troubleshoots the document itself, not just the prose.

Copilot, Google Docs and Notion sit beside the document and hand you text to paste. cunei owns its editing engine, so it can act in the page — and fix the page.

Privacy / BYO-key

Your words stay yours.

Two AI lanes, one principle: nothing routes through a cunei server. The free on-device lane never leaves your Mac. The cloud lane uses your own provider key, calling the provider directly.

On-device by default

Quick rewrites and proofreading run on Apple Foundation Models. They never leave your Mac, and they're always free.

Bring your own key

Claude, GPT or Gemini, with token-by-token streaming. Your key calls the provider directly — you pay your provider, not us.

No cunei server in the loop

We don't see your documents, your prompts, or your key. There's no backend for us to leak.

Feature depth

Built for long, serious documents.

Full-fidelity .docx round-trip plus the heavy machinery serious documents demand — the tools academics and legal writers stopped expecting from a Mac word processor.

Two claims, and only cunei can make both at once: it acts inside the document, and it owns the engine — so it preserves .docx fidelity and fixes structure a chat can't even see.

Questions

The honest answers.

Mac-only excludes my co-authors?

No. cunei edits standard .docx, so co-authors on Word, Pages or Docs open your files normally. You collaborate in the universal format — you just get a better tool for your part.

Do I really need another word processor?

If blank pages, broken numbering, stray section breaks and drifting citations sound familiar — and you're tired of pasting AI suggestions back by hand — cunei is the first place the AI can fix those in-document.

Why trust AI to edit my document?

You don't have to — you review it. Every action is a tracked change you accept or reject, or a comment you resolve. Nothing is silently rewritten, and the grounded review pass checks claims against your own sources with real quotes.

Isn't bring-your-own-key friction and cost?

No subscription, ever. On-device AI is always free. Your key calls the provider directly (usually pennies), with a guided paste-your-key flow. Nothing routes through cunei.

Is my work private?

On-device by default, bring-your-own-key cloud, and no cunei backend. There's no server in the middle for us to leak.

Is this real, or vaporware?

It's a real app in private beta. This page shows interface concepts and labels anything still landing as “Coming in beta” — which is why the button says “Get early access”, not “Download now”.
